Cyber Security Specialist

Contract W2 - Profit Sharing

We are seeking a technically strong Cybersecurity Specialist to support cybersecurity and systems administration activities within a DoD environment at Vandenberg Space Force Base.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience across Linux and Windows operating systems, virtualization, vulnerability management, networking, and DoD cybersecurity frameworks, along with the ability to troubleshoot and support enterprise systems in a secure environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support cybersecurity operations and system administration activities in a DoD environment.
  • Perform vulnerability identification, assessment, tracking, and remediation.
  • Support RMF, ACAS, and vulnerability management activities.
  • Work with security tools such as Nessus, NMAP, SCAP, and STIG Viewer.
  • Administer and troubleshoot Windows Server and Linux/Unix operating systems.
  • Support virtualized environments using technologies such as VMware, ESXi, and Xen.
  • Monitor and evaluate system and security logs for potential issues.
  • Support network and system administration activities involving Cisco/Juniper infrastructure.
  • Assist with account management, network protocols, switches, routers, and related infrastructure.
  • Apply security configuration and hardening requirements in accordance with DoD standards.
  • Utilize AI-enabled cybersecurity and IT tools where appropriate to improve security operations and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity, network, and systems administration teams to resolve technical issues.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related STEM field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of cybersecurity experience working in a team environment.
  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • DoD 8570 IAT II or IAM II certification, such as Security+ CE or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • RMF
    • ACAS
    • Vulnerability Management
    • STIGs and security compliance
  • Strong hands-on experience with Windows Server and Linux/Unix operating systems.
  • Experience with VMware, ESXi, Xen, or other virtualization technologies.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity tools including Nessus, NMAP, SCAP, and STIG Viewer.
  • Understanding of network and system administration, including Cisco/Juniper networking equipment.
  • Knowledge of network protocols, account management, and audit log analysis.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred / Plus

  • Experience supporting cybersecurity operations within DoD or other government environments.
  • Experience with security hardening and compliance remediation.
  • Experience working with virtualized enterprise environments.
  • Hands-on experience applying AI tools or automation to cybersecurity, system administration, or security analysis.

Important Requirements

Active DoD Secret Clearance is mandatory.
DoD 8570 IAT II or IAM II certification (Security+ CE or equivalent) is required.
