Sharepoint Architect/Engineer
The client is looking for a senior-level SharePoint Architect/Engineer who can work approximately 20-25 hours per week. The majority of the work can be completed independently and on a flexible schedule, with the expectation of participating in a couple of stakeholder meetings during normal business hours each week.
The organization recently implemented Microsoft Copilot and has identified significant challenges with being able to fully leverage the platform due to their knowledge management organization. They are looking for someone who can act as both an architect and hands-on engineer to assess their current environment, identify gaps and best-practice improvements, and implement. .
The environment supports approximately 60 users and contains roughly 4 TB of SharePoint data accumulated over the past 20 years. Much of the content structure has evolved organically over time, creating challenges around discoverability, governance, and overall usability. Several systems are also approaching data and storage limitations, making this an important initiative for the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the existing SharePoint environment, including site architecture, content organization, permissions, governance, and overall usability.
- Evaluate current SharePoint design and identify areas that are not aligned with Microsoft and SharePoint best practices.
- Analyze existing processes, site structures, and content management approaches that may be slowing productivity, limiting collaboration, or impacting user experience.
- Assess knowledge management challenges and develop recommendations to improve information discovery, content lifecycle management, and governance.
- Identify opportunities to simplify and modernize the environment while reducing complexity.
- Evaluate current data organization and readiness for Microsoft Copilot and AI-enabled search experiences.
- Develop recommendations to improve content discoverability, metadata strategy, taxonomy, and information architecture.
- Create a future-state roadmap and prioritized recommendations for remediation, optimization, and governance.
- Partner with internal technical stakeholders and leadership teams to review findings and recommendations.
- Participate in regular weekly meetings to provide progress updates and guidance.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of SharePoint architecture, engineering, and administration experience.
- Strong understanding of information architecture, taxonomy design, metadata strategy, records management, and governance frameworks.
- Experience assessing and modernizing large, complex SharePoint environments.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Copilot, Microsoft Search, and AI readiness considerations within Microsoft 365.
- Proven experience leading SharePoint modernization, migration, or optimization initiatives.
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight while engaging effectively with business and technical stakeholders.
- Strong consulting, communication, and documentation skills.
